The El Merk field

 The El Merk field is located approximately 300 Km south east of Hassi Messaoud in the Algerian Sahara in a remote, harsh desert location where the terrain consists of large interlocking sand dunes. The El Merk Project has been established to design and construct the surface facilities required for the exploitation of hydrocarbon liquid reserves of six reservoirs in Blocks 208, 405a and 212 in Algeria.

Call for Tender

ImageThe National Agency for the Development of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) launched the first national and international invitation to tender for the granting of 45 blocs of exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in 16 areas located in south Algeria on July 13. The oil companies, having met the regulatory agency's requirements beforehand, were invited to confirm their intention to participate.

Emirati Investments

ImageThe United Arabs Emirates is investing in Algeria with renewed vigour, enabling petrodollars to pour in to the country of late. This view was reinforced during the sixth session of the joint Algerian-Emirati commission in Algiers last month.

UAE Economy Minister, Sheikh Soltan el Mansour, visiting Algiers with a delegation of Emirati investors, said afterwards that he expects the level of investment in Algeria to increase between 2006 and 2010.

Arzew LNG deal goes to Snam Projetti / Chlyoda

ImageALGIERS – The national oil company Sonatrach signed Saturday in Algiers with the Italian-Japanese group Snam-Projetti/Chyoda a contract to construct a liquefied natural gas train (GNL3.Z) in Arzew in the presence of Energy and Mining Minister Chakib Khelil and Sonatrach’s Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Meziane.

A modern network for national employment agencies to be shortly set up

ImageALGIERS - A modern national network connecting all national employment agencies will be established within the next months, Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Tayeb Louh announced Saturday in Algiers. In his statement to the media, following the meeting of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika with the presidents of the People's Communal Assemblies, the minister said this step lies within the "reform and modernization of the National Employment Agency (ANEM)."
